'Speed and economy... The Tradewind... easy to build, inexpensive to operate, the plans built touring aircraft for the Experimental Catagory and CS-VLA'
We live in an era of sleek high performance composite kit aircraft which often fall out of the reach of the everyday amateur constructor for reasons of cost and practicality. The Tradewind has been developed to be as inexpensive and simple to build as possible, combining clean lines and diminutive proportions. The Tradewind can be built and hangered in a single car garage as the wings are simply removed. With wood as the structural medium, your project can be started with the minimum financial outlay in terms of tools and material cost. The Tradewind requires only average building skills from the constructor with few complex joints or welded components. It doesn’t even need a welded engine mount. Building the Tradewind aircraft could be considered no more difficult than building a model aircraft. An efficient lightweight structure, low drag and a compact shape permit the use of smaller engines such as the 65-80 hp VW, offering economy, speed and range.
